HOW IT WORKS
Before registering your profile, feel free to browse around the cool new skillbounders section of the home page. There, you will see a typical profile and what some of our members offer.
Marvel at their brilliance!
If you see something you like, or want to show the world how skillful and smart you are, you can register with us and allow the skill-training swapping games to begin.
Although we invite you to submit your personal information onto our database when you register; we don’t encourage you to put the same information on your profile.
Please do not include your last name, your phone number, email address or any other personal information on your profile. That would leave you open to unwanted emails and we wouldn’t want that. Your first name and username are plenty and you can write down whatever you feel like to connect with other members.
Keep in mind, the more you reveal about yourself and things you like, the more likely people will want to swap skill training with you. Well, let’s hope so! So be honest about your skill sets and teaching abilities.
Nothing says check out my skills more than posting one or more of your photos online. Well, okay, maybe that’s not true, but people always like to see who they’re talking to. Feel free to throw on the photos that mean something to you and best show people the real you.
Okay your profile is complete…now its time to fill out your skill set. Go ahead show off! If you have so many skills you can’t recall them all in one sitting, feel free to return to the list later. You can add and take away skills whenever you choose.
Against each skill you include, we want you to grade yourself on your level of proficiency for both your level of skill in that skill category and your teaching ability. Basic; intermediate; or expert are your choices. So for example, you might be an expert photographer but a basic teacher. Be honest if you don’t want people to start giving you negative feedback!
Now it's time to add a list of desired skills you are interested in learning. Fill out your wish list with what you would love to know and viola you’re ready to rock and roll…or Salsa…or juggle your way to the prom…company picnic…or a fast-food drive-in.
Pretty soon people will start viewing your profile and will hopefully want you to train them in a skill. If they do, their job is to contact you and see if you are interested in learning from them any of their skills.
Our recommendation is this: one person’s hour of time is equal to another person’s time. We don’t care if someone has a job that commands $300 an hour in fees, has 2 PhDs and a fancy haircut. What we care about is people being on a level playing field. In our eyes you’re equal no matter what and we mean no matter what.
Please, please, please use caution at all times. When meeting new people on the Internet, exercise discretion and common sense. Please take the time to view our safety tips page. Take time to email, phone, and/or instant message the person you are planning on meeting. Don’t meet them in person unless you feel safe to do so. Meet other members in public and with other friends. We cannot hold your hand, or assure you of your protection but safety in numbers can sometimes help.
If you feel uncomfortable inviting other members to your home, or visiting them at theirs, try meeting in a coffee shop, a public library, a diner or any other public place you feel comfortable in.
Happy skills swapping!
